Are you an experienced scientist with a strong background in tumour immunology, immuno-oncology, or translational cancer research looking to make a meaningful impact within an innovative biotech environment? A pioneering biotechnology company based at Alderley Park is seeking a Senior Scientist / Principal Scientist to join its Biology team on a fixed-term basis. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of next-generation oncology therapies and play a key role in advancing a portfolio of highly differentiated therapeutic candidates.

The Role

Reporting directly to senior scientific leadership, you will help shape and execute biological strategy across multiple preclinical programmes. You will provide scientific leadership across discovery and translational research activities, working closely with internal teams, CROs, academic collaborators and strategic partners. This position offers significant visibility and influence within the organisation and would suit a scientist who enjoys combining scientific excellence with strategic thinking in a fast-paced biotech setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, oversight and interpretation of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo studies.
  • Drive scientific understanding of therapeutic mechanisms and biological activity.
  • Develop translational strategies supporting target validation, biomarker discovery and patient selection.
  • Manage external CROs, academic collaborations and research programmes.
  • Guide the development of biologically relevant assays and experimental models.
  • Support cross-functional project teams across biology and related scientific disciplines.
  • Present scientific findings to internal stakeholders, collaborators and external audiences.
  • Contribute to publications, intellectual property generation and broader company strategy.
  • Mentor junior scientists and provide technical leadership where required.

About You

  • PhD in Immunology, Cancer Biology or a related Life Sciences discipline with industry experience, or MSc with substantial relevant industry experience.
  • Strong expertise in tumour immunology and/or myeloid biology.
  • Experience working with components of the tumour microenvironment, including:
    • Tumour-Associated Macrophages (TAMs)
    • Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts (CAFs)
    • Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells (MDSCs)
  • Proven experience designing and interpreting preclinical oncology studies.
  • Experience managing CROs, external collaborators and complex research programmes.
  • Strong scientific communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to thrive within a dynamic, collaborative biotechnology environment.

Desirable Experience

  • Antibody therapeutics, biologics or ADC development.
  • Translational biomarker strategies and patient stratification.
  • Histopathology, IHC, IF and spatial biology technologies.
  • Team leadership, mentoring or line management.
  • Contributions to regulatory documentation, investor presentations or business development activities.
