We’re partnering with a globally recognised biopharmaceutical organisation to find a Protein Crystallographer to join their innovative Small Molecule Discovery team. This role sits within a newly established Discovery Technology & Platforms function, focused on accelerating drug discovery through cutting-edge structural biology and fragment-based design approaches.

About the Role

This is a hands-on laboratory role focused on fragment-based ligand design (FBLD), where you’ll contribute to building and advancing internal crystallography capabilities. You’ll work within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team to:

  • Identify novel binding sites
  • Generate structural insights
  • Support structure-guided drug design

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse crystallographic datasets from fragment screening campaigns
  • Apply refinement tools to model protein–ligand structures
  • Coordinate X-ray data collection (in-house and external synchrotrons)
  • Contribute to the development of FBLD workflows and methodologies
  • Collaborate across biology, chemistry, and computational teams
  • Support innovation in identifying cryptic binding sites

Required Experience

  • Exposure to protein crystallography or structural biology techniques
  • Protein purification or biophysics
  • Strong willingness to learn and specialise in crystallography
  • Motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to develop in a cutting-edge environment

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working with large crystallographic datasets
  • Exposure to HPC environments or automation workflows
  • Passion for platform development and scientific innovation
  • Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills
