Production Manager

An established engineering and manufacturing organisation is seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead day-to-day manufacturing operations within a busy production environment.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality production output in line with customer requirements, engineering specifications, delivery schedules, and business performance targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate, coach, and develop Team Leaders and the wider production workforce to achieve agreed operational targets.
- Take ownership of daily, weekly, and monthly production performance, ensuring products are manufactured safely, efficiently, on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
- Plan and coordinate labour, resources, workflows, and priorities to meet production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
- Drive a strong health, safety, environmental, and quality culture across all production areas, ensuring compliance with procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with Engineering, Scheduling, Quality, Procurement, Stores, Logistics, Maintenance, and Project teams to resolve constraints and improve operational flow.
- Monitor key performance indicators including safety, quality, delivery, productivity, labour efficiency, rework, waste, and absence rates.
- Identify production risks, bottlenecks, skills gaps, material shortages, quality issues, and capacity constraints, implementing corrective actions as required.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives, Lean Manufacturing principles, 5S, root-cause analysis, and waste reduction activities.
- Ensure Team Leaders conduct effective daily briefings, allocate resources appropriately, and support employee engagement and performance management.
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience in a Production Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Operations Manager, or similar senior production leadership role within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading production teams through supervisors, Team Leaders, or line managers.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing planning, production control, capacity management, labour allocation, and performance management.
- Demonstrable ability to lead large teams, set expectations, drive accountability, and develop frontline leadership capability.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety requirements within manufacturing environments.
