Curatorial E Archaeologist

CPL have partnered with Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) to recruit for a Curatorial E Archaeologist (SO Grade) to join their team on a temporary contract, with possibility of extension.

Pay Rate – Β£19.59 per/hr

Location – DfC, HED Heritage Records Designation, Titanic Boulevard

Benefits – 37 days holiday per annum

Hours – 37 hours per week

This is a temporary Curatorial E archaeologist post within the Historic Environment Division. The post will cover a range of duties, focusing on archaeological excavation archives, working as part of a team and providing support to HED staff.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the review, management, maintenance and updating of HED and commercial sector excavation archives, including artefacts, environmental samples, documentary and digital holdings
  • Collating and synthesising documentary and artefactual archives deriving from particular excavations to contribute towards preparation for publication
  • Researching excavation reports to identify information relating to human remains and soil sample collections to enable decision making re further processing and selection, retention, dispersal
  • Appraising, sorting and cataloguing excavation archives for retention or disposal (including documentary and digital archives)
  • Sorting, cleaning, and recording archaeological artefacts for permanent preservation
  • Identifying dispersed excavation archives
  • Providing archive quantification

Essential Experience/Qualifications

  • (i) an honours degree in archaeology
  • OR
  • (ii) a recognised post-graduate qualification in archaeology
  • AND
  • At least 2 years post graduate archaeological experience. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Archaeological excavation
  • Experience in researching and/or working with post excavation material
  • Experience cataloguing or processing artefact collections

Full driving licence, valid for Northern Ireland, and access to a form of transport that will enable them to carry out the duties of the post in full.
