An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Analytical department for an Analytical Chemist to join the team. Reporting to the Brixworth Analytical Manager, this role will be based at the state-of-the-art laboratories at our purpose-built R&D centre in Northamptonshire, UK. The successful candidate will join our team of fragrance chemists providing an analytical service to our global perfumery and development teams.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Analysis of fragrances from different market products including fine fragrances and personal and household care products to support all the global CPL divisions using a variety of analytical techniques.
- Contribute to method development to extend the range of techniques available to the group.
- Use GC-MS to solve QC problems and customer complaints.
- Utilise knowledge of perfumery materials and essential oils to produce fragrance formulations.
- The ability to take part in olfactory assessments.
- Responsibilities include routine maintenance and record-keeping of our sophisticated analytical instruments.
- Preparation, analysis and interpretation of samples on the GCMS systems.
- Extraction of fragrances from consumer products such as soaps, candles, shampoos and laundry care products.
- Working closely with our R&D department to develop and advance CPL Aromasβ proprietary technologies.
Qualification:
- A science-based education in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or similar.
- Previous experience of laboratory work within the fragrance, cosmetic or related industries.
- Detailed knowledge of the composition of fragrance raw materials and essential oils.
- Advanced GC-MS skills (minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience essential).
- Familiarity with other analytical techniques such as HPLC would be an advantage.
- Experience of olfactory assessments would be an advantage, as would an ability to pass the CPL smelling test.
- Previous experience of Agilent data handling software would be beneficial, but not essential.
