To ensure the safe, efficient and effective operation of the Production (including Despatch) or Sampling teams. This is achieved through clear communication, fair measurement of performance and colleagues to the expected standards, improvement in areas of identified opportunity in people and process. Full ownership of safety, people development and management, quality, lead-time and service.
Reports to: Operations Manager
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Ensure that safe working practices are both demonstrated and assured in the team, including but not limited to PPE use and maintenance, Manual Handling, COSHH, COMAH/DSEAR, FLT use, reporting of incidents, NMI’s and observations, and adequate First Aid cover.
- Maintain process discipline through a combination of training and review (appraisals) and where this is not successful, use of the Company processes for NCR’s.
- Support colleagues through the Company absence process through use of RTW’s and where we are not able to encourage adherence to required attendance, use of the Company processes on absence working with HR.
- Effective root cause and corrective actions of NCR’s. Investigations completed within 24h, and actions within 5 days.
- Diligent, unbiased and precise communication with all team members on expected standards, performance and outcomes. Minimum daily communication with each team on progress and use of visual indicators on achievement to expected targets.
- Develop colleagues through regular development discussions, documented and actioned. Listen to and provide feedback.
- Ownership of the site where the manager is not present. Consistent, timely and clear escalation where necessary.
Production & Despatch Specific
- Allocation of team members dynamically to tasks according to the order book priorities, inbound and outbound freight.
- Ensuring sufficient colleagues are trained to avoid shortfalls or excessive demands on any individual.
- Review of the daily production report to ensure updated for 10am each day, and with any significant changes thereafter.
- Liaison with internal stakeholders such as QSHE, QC, Planning, Shipping and Purchasing to minimise delays through production due to unforeseen issues or changes to customer demands.
- Ensuring stock accuracy is >99% and that any shortages or write downs are checked and reported to planning or purchasing to avoid customer disappointment.
Sampling Specific
- Allocation of team members dynamically to tasks according to the agreed BMS priorities, with the Operations Manager.
- Ensuring the whole team can move between tasks and that each shift is clear on requirements and autonomous.
- Proactively develop process improvements to reduce walking and handling.
- Ensure team members do not compromise on process safety.
- Manage internal stakeholders consistently through emails.
- Ensure that issues impacting customers are communicated and all shipments to divisions go on time.
- Strong liaison with and understanding of the planning and stock management processes to minimise waste and lead-time.
Teamwork & Ethics
- Undertaking audits or other support activities within the Operations team to better understand each other’s roles.
- Transparent approach to workload, to ensure that we take opportunities to improve and serve the customer for mutual benefit.
- Promote CPL’s values, ethics and best practices.
Requirements

- Ensure all relevant reporting is regularly maintained and available as requested according to the business needs.
