CPJ Field & Company Ltd, an independent and family-owned Funeral Company, is one of the oldest and most established companies in the UK. In such a personal profession, we recognise the importance of our team members. Our colleagues serve as ambassadors for the family business and custodians of our company ethos, to care for both the living and the dead.
We currently have a position for a full-time, qualified Embalmer to provide essential support to the Funeral Directors, helping with all matters concerning the preparation of the person that has died and the process of embalming, in accordance with family wishes alongside arranging and planning funeral services. Acting as key support, this role is suitable for those interested in providing exceptional care for our clients and their families.
The role is based at Ballard & Shortall, East Grinstead; however, you may be required to cover other Funeral Homes for CPJ Field as required.
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Flexibility is required, as you may need to assist or cover for other staff, which could include some out-of-hours work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation of the person that has died in accordance with the wishes of the family.
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the mortuary/embalming room.
- Carry out tests to ensure correct function of extraction systems/formaldehyde exposure monitoring.
- Carry out stock control and raise orders for embalming and mortuary products as required.
- Travel to other Funeral Homes and viewing facilities for cosmetic treatment of the deceased.
- Willing and able to assist with any other duties within the Funeral Home.
- Flexibility to travel, at reasonable request of the company to cover other embalmers' absence, holiday or sick leave.

- Must hold a UK manual driving licence.
