The KM Bindery Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining bindery equipment to produce high-quality finished printed books. This role ensures that all processes are completed safely, efficiently, and according to customer specifications and quality standards.
Responsibilities
This position involves:
- Set up, operate, and adjust bindery equipment including folders, guillotines and binding machines
- Read and interpret job tickets, work orders, and production specifications
- Inspect printed materials for quality, accuracy, and consistency throughout the finishing process
- Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as required to meet production standards
- Prepare elements in advance of the next job to ensure seamless change over between jobs is achieved
- Supervise Bindery Assistants
- Perform routine planned maintenance and cleaning of bindery equipment
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and report significant mechanical problems to maintenance personnel
- Ensure finished products are packaged, labelled, and prepared for despatch according to job bag requirements
- Maintain production records and complete required documentation accurately
- Follow all health, safety, and company procedures
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment using the 5S approach
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and quality
Key Competencies
- Previous experience in a print production or bindery environment preferred
- Knowledge of bindery equipment operation and finishing processes
- Ability to read and understand production specifications and work instructions
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Good communication and organisational skills.
