The KM Bindery Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining bindery equipment to produce high-quality finished printed books. This role ensures that all processes are completed safely, efficiently, and according to customer specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities

This position involves:

  • Set up, operate, and adjust bindery equipment including folders, guillotines and binding machines
  • Read and interpret job tickets, work orders, and production specifications
  • Inspect printed materials for quality, accuracy, and consistency throughout the finishing process
  • Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as required to meet production standards
  • Prepare elements in advance of the next job to ensure seamless change over between jobs is achieved
  • Supervise Bindery Assistants
  • Perform routine planned maintenance and cleaning of bindery equipment
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and report significant mechanical problems to maintenance personnel
  • Ensure finished products are packaged, labelled, and prepared for despatch according to job bag requirements
  • Maintain production records and complete required documentation accurately
  • Follow all health, safety, and company procedures
  • Maintain a clean and organised work environment using the 5S approach
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and quality

Key Competencies

  • Previous experience in a print production or bindery environment preferred
  • Knowledge of bindery equipment operation and finishing processes
  • Ability to read and understand production specifications and work instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards
  • Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
