We are seeking an experienced and proactive Facilities & Site Manager to lead the delivery of high-quality facilities management services across a busy and dynamic college environment. Working closely with the Director of Operations & Finance (DOF), you will ensure the estate is safe, compliant, and operating efficiently, delivering an outstanding environment for students, staff, and visitors. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role with responsibility for site operations, maintenance, health & safety, and long-term estate planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams including maintenance, estates, housekeeping, hospitality, and administration.
    • Drive a strong customer-focused culture and continuous improvement.
    • Manage performance, training, and development of staff.
  • Estates, Maintenance & Projects
    • Oversee planned and reactive maintenance across the estate.
    • Manage refurbishment and capital projects, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
    • Maintain high standards of grounds and facilities.
    • Manage contractors, service agreements, and supplier performance.
  • Health & Safety & Compliance
    • Act as the organisations Competent Person for Health & Safety.
    • Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation (H&S, fire safety, water hygiene, asbestos, etc.).
    • Lead risk assessments, audits, inspections, and incident prevention strategies.
    • Oversee statutory testing and compliance records.
  • Security & Risk Management
    • Manage site security systems including CCTV and access control.
    • Maintain risk registers, business continuity, and emergency procedures.
    • Ensure safe and secure campus operations.
  • Financial & Commercial Management
    • Support budget planning and manage departmental spend.
    • Monitor costs, approve invoices, and ensure value for money.
    • Oversee utilities, waste contracts, and supplier procurement.
  • Environmental Sustainability
    • Drive sustainability initiatives across energy, waste, and carbon reduction.
    • Promote environmental awareness and compliance.
  • Facilities Services
    • Oversee housekeeping standards and cleanliness audits.
    • Manage catering provision through external contractors.
    • Support lettings and income generation opportunities.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Coordinate office moves, space planning, and accommodation management.
    • Provide on-call/duty management cover (including out-of-hours emergencies).
    • Ensure safeguarding responsibilities are upheld across the estate.

About You

  • Essential: NEBOSH Certificate (General or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in Facilities or Estates Management.
  • Strong knowledge of UK building regulations and compliance.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management ability.
  • Strong IT skills (Microsoft/Google platforms).
  • Understanding of safeguarding and health & safety culture.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Desirable: Experience in education or similar environments.
  • Sustainability or environmental qualifications.
  • Experience with space booking systems or CAD (e.g., TurboCAD).
