A fantastic opportunity has arisen within a local authority for a skilled and knowledgeable Homeless Housing Coordinator to join their Initial Assessment Team. This is a key frontline role within a service designed to prevent homelessness, support housing sustainment, and contribute to the delivery of Enfield’s Early Help strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver expert housing advice and practical support to individuals and households threatened with homelessness or already homeless.

*

Carry out home visits and in-depth assessments to understand applicants’ housing needs and circumstances.

*

Work proactively with clients to prevent or delay homelessness, exploring all available options including mediation, landlord negotiation, and private rented sector solutions.

*

Provide clear, accurate and legally compliant advice and decisions in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act, case law, and local policies.

*

Manage a varied and often complex caseload, making well-informed and lawful decisions on homelessness applications.

*

Liaise with partner agencies including support services, landlords, courts, and housing providers to achieve sustainable housing solutions.

*

Support and advise clients on welfare benefits, income maximisation, and other related support pathways.

*

Keep accurate, timely case records and ensure full compliance with safeguarding responsibilities for both vulnerable adults and children.

*

Contribute to the development and delivery of the service’s prevention-focused approach, reducing reliance on temporary accommodation.

Essential Skills & Experience:

Expert knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act, housing legislation, case law, and statutory guidance.

*

Proven experience in delivering frontline homelessness prevention and housing advice services.

*

Confident in conducting home visits and working with vulnerable households.

*

Understanding of welfare benefits, landlord-tenant law, possession proceedings, and eviction processes.

*

Experience in drafting legally robust decisions, including s.184 decisions.

*

Strong understanding of safeguarding practices for vulnerable adults and children.

*

Ability to work under pressure, manage a high caseload, and meet tight deadlines.

*

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.
