About the Role: One of my local government clients is looking for an experienced and proactive Council Tax Officer to join their Revenues team. This is a hybrid role offering flexibility between home and office working. As a key member of the team, you’ll be the first point of contact for residents, providing expert support on Council Tax billing, registration, and discount/exemption applications. The role is ideal for someone with a strong background in local government revenues and a customer-focused mindset. Key Responsibilities: * Handle a high volume of inbound customer enquiries via phone regarding Council Tax. * Set up and maintain Council Tax accounts, including applying relevant discounts, exemptions, and changes of address. * Ensure compliance with current Council Tax legislation. * Accurately update the Academy/MRI system and maintain detailed records. * Provide clear, empathetic support to residents, helping them understand their liabilities and available support options. Candidate Requirements: * Previous experience as a Council Tax Officer within a local authority or similar public sector setting. * In-depth understanding of Council Tax legislation, billing, and recovery procedures. * Strong communication skills with a confident, professional telephone manner. * Proficiency in using Academy (Capita) or MRI software. * Ability to manage workloads in a fast-paced environment with high levels of accuracy.
