One of my local government clients is seeking an experienced and proactive Housing Officer to manage a patch of approximately 500 properties. This role is essential in ensuring effective tenancy management, rent monitoring, neighbourhood inspections and high-quality service to residents. A driving licence and use of a vehicle are required due to the need to visit properties across the district at short notice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor rent accounts, visit tenants regarding arrears and issue appropriate letters
  • Attend court hearings, arrears panels and evictions when required
  • Manage tenancy-related matters including successions, assignments and abandoned property investigations
  • Advertise available properties, review shortlists, conduct viewings and complete sign-ups
  • Undertake around 20 tenancy audits and 10 block inspections per month, ensuring appropriate follow-up
  • Participate in resident involvement activities, including occasional evening meetings
  • Respond promptly to requests to attend properties or locations on the same day
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure compliance and effective service delivery

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Housing Officer or similar role in social housing
  • Strong knowledge of rent management, tenancy law and neighbourhood housing issues
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and work independently
