As a Senior Engineer – Design, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of engineering work packages, ensuring technical quality, timely delivery, and alignment with programme objectives. You will also act as a technical mentor within the team, helping to develop colleagues and strengthen engineering capability across both technical and behavioural areas. Alongside your senior responsibilities, you will contribute hands‑on to design activities and provide valuable input to engineering‑led and cross‑functional discussions. The Senior Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in driving technical excellence and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Work in conjunction with the Principal Engineers to ensure Work Package milestones are completed to required timing, and assist in maintaining the required levels of technical quality in the output of the Programme Engineering team.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to members of the Programme Engineering team where appropriate, in order to upskill on both a technical and behavioural basis.
  • Undertake additional technical tasks, where required, to support delivery of the business’ Work Package milestones.
  • Ensure all data is stored appropriately to support effective use and alignment with the Cox enterprise architecture.
  • Add value through technical input into engineering‑led and cross‑functional internal and external discussions (for example technical problem solving / 8D activities or DFM discussions).
  • Contribute to programme timing plans for activities and deliverables you are directly responsible for.

Specialist Responsibilities – Design

  • Generate component and assembly designs, including 3D models, 2D technical drawings, and associated technical documentation according to programme timing and requirements.
  • Prepare design release packs, including supporting evidence such as calculations to justify key design decisions.
  • Apply sound engineering principles and professional judgement to produce technically robust designs.
  • Ensure own designs meet company design guidelines and standards.
  • Review designs, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for Design Check in line with departmental standards.
  • Maintain company design guidelines and processes, where applicable ensuring adherence to BS8888.
  • Support the Change Manager with Teamcenter‑based administration activities where required.
