Cox London are designers and makers of unique functional art in the form of lighting installations and furniture. At Cox London we design and fabricate individual pieces and limited-edition collections for interior decorators, collectors and private clients. The role will support the development of our Skills Matrix Framework, our Craft Apprenticeship pathway and the wider progression of artisans, makers, designers and operational teams at Cox London. Working closely with the HR Manager, Production, Operations and Quality leaders and our community of master craftspeople and in-house trainers, the L&D Officer will help elevate the skills, confidence and capability of our people, ensuring the spirit of craft excellence is nurtured in every corner of the studio and workshops.

Key Responsibilities:
  • School of Applied Arts
    • Support the HR Manager with the development of curriculum pathways spanning applied arts, craft apprenticeship programme, technical mastery, leadership and creative thinking.
    • Collaborate and coordinate with master makers, subject matter experts and in-house trainers to translate specialist knowledge into structured, inspiring training experiences.
    • Coordinate workshops, masterclasses, visiting artists’ sessions and hands-on learning opportunities.
    • Ensure every learning experience is well supported by coordinating the essentials, i.e., spaces, schedules, materials, communication and thoughtful learner support.
    • Track the progress of participants through the School, maintaining a clear view of growth and development.
  • Skills Matrix
    • Support the embedding and continual refinement of Cox London’s Skills Matrix Framework across all disciplines.
    • Partner with Production Leaders and managers to articulate the skills, behaviours and proficiency levels expected within each role.
    • Assist the HR Manager and Production Manager in skills assessments and reviews, identifying strengths, gaps and progression opportunities.
    • Recommend learning interventions informed by workshop needs and future capability goals.
  • Learning & Development Programmes
    • Coordinate a thoughtful calendar of training, technical, creative, professional and leadership-based.
    • Ensure learning pathways are clear, accessible and linked to growth and progression at Cox London.
    • Maintain training materials, learning resources and digital content.
    • Evaluate programme impact and work with colleagues to continuously enrich the learner experience.
  • Training Facilitation
    • Support in-house trainers and master makers during skill-based workshops (e.g., SOP Training).
    • Create an encouraging, inclusive learning environment that supports confidence and mastery.
  • Learning Administration, Systems & Reporting
    • Maintain accurate documentation of learning progress, training logs and development milestones.
    • Manage learning data and resources within Hibob HRIS.
    • Produce monthly L&D dashboards and insights that help steer decision-making and highlight growth across the teams.
    • Provide structured monthly reports to Senior Leadership Team on all L&D activities, progress and insights.
  • External Partnerships & Networks
    • Support relationships with training partners, schools, universities and industry bodies within the arts, design and crafts community.
    • Coordinate external learning programmes, enrolments and logistics.
    • Gather feedback and provide training provider evaluations to maintain quality and alignment with our mission, vision and values.
  • Culture, Engagement & Communication
    • Champion a culture of curiosity, learning and creative exploration across the studio and workshops.
    • Support the Marketing team with communication and storytelling around the School of Applied Arts, its purpose, activity and impact.
    • Celebrate learning achievements and craft excellence through internal channels and engagement initiatives.
Required Skills & Behaviours (essential)
  • Demonstrated experience in Learning & Development, training coordination or people development.
  • High proficiency in MS365, PowerPoint, core IT systems and the effective use of AI tools.
  • Fully capable of independently producing training manuals, documentation and learning resources, and managing administrative processes with minimal support from Marketing.
  • Strong administrative, record-keeping and project coordination skills, delivered with accuracy and care.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to connect across diverse teams.
  • Comfortable supporting artisans, designers, operations and design teams.
  • Previous experience in craftsmanship, or manufacturing or creative industries.
  • Familiarity with Skills Matrices, Competency Frameworks or Apprenticeship pathways.
  • Experience working with early careers or vocational training.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and evaluation methodology.
  • CIPD Level 3/5 or equivalent in L&D/HR.
