Can you provide CDM guidance and support to multi-discipline project teams, in particular, have you undertaken the Principal Designer role? Then, join us to shape a safe and sustainable world. To support growth within our business through recent project wins, we are looking for a Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join us. Working on a range of Infrastructure and Energy projects, you’ll provide safety leadership and undertake the role of Principal Designer on projects.
Responsibilities
- Collaborating with our project team and JV partners to support delivery of Health, Safety & Wellbeing requirements across the project.
- Supporting the role of Principal Designer on our projects.
- Working with our H&S team to support HSW across the wider business.
- Undertaking monitoring of project activity for compliance with H&S legislation, client standards and management systems and procedures and raise concerns to the appropriate level as required.
- Delivering Health & Safety training to project staff as required, to ensure sound understanding of the principles, regulations and relevant COWI UK processes.
- Providing support and guidance to the design and onsite teams for them to plan, coordinate and monitor site project work, considering the principles of prevention.
- Implementing actions to transform our approach to HSW through the full project & infrastructure lifecycle.
- Supporting our project and office locations– HSE Planning, Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work.
- Supporting the review and assessment of competency (skills, knowledge, experience and organisational capability) of external designers, consultants and contractors being considered for appointment on the project, as appropriate.
- Participating in accident/incident investigations on site and brief lessons learnt.
- Reporting findings to the COWI UK Senior Leadership Team where concerns arise or where improvements should be made to current procedures to improve HSW.
- Undertaking site audits and inspections.
- Promoting best practice in all elements of Health, Safety & Wellbeing both internally and externally.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience of undertaking the Principal Designer Role (PD) on a project.
- Demonstrable experience of working within a HSE team, in Engineering/Wind/Water/Transmission.
- The knowledge to facilitate HAZID/HAZOP workshops.
- A relevant qualification, such as NEBOSH Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
- HSE Chartership or as a minimum have a Cert. IOSH level or similar accreditation and be working towards full chartership.
- Sound knowledge of national H&S legislation.
- The ability to influence teams to adopt the highest Health, Safety & Wellbeing standards.
- A clear understanding of how health and safety is monitored through the design process to construction, maintenance, end use and demolition.
- Experience of the audit process and have an ability to identify and express areas of concern.
- The ability to demonstrate management and coordination skills to motivate and influence internal and external teams.
