To assist in the growth and add technical expertise to our Bridge department, we are looking for an experienced Director to join us. Working on project delivery and market growth, you’ll work with our senior leadership team to deliver a portfolio of projects and drive business development.
Your responsibilities
- Lead project work within bridge and structural engineering, as part of COWI’s UK & Ireland leadership team.
- Oversee the delivery of a portfolio of bridge and major infrastructure projects, supporting Project Managers as the senior point of contact for customers on your projects, and collaborating globally with others across the COWI Group to deliver our projects.
- Drive commercial performance of your projects, working with Technical Directors to ensure engineering solutions meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Drive business development in your sector. Work with the Senior Market Director and Market Director (Transportation) to build and maintain client relationships, lead on proposals, and win work using your technical and delivery expertise.
- Collaborate with the UK Head of Discipline and Market Director to deliver growth within the sector, ensuring we have the right skills and people to stay ahead of developments and deliver our project pipeline.
- Support Senior Technical Director by providing and developing thought leadership within bridge and structural engineering, strengthening our profile.
- Contribute to the financial performance of the business by meeting sector budgets for revenue and profit, ensuring projects are well-managed and month-end processes are accurate.

Required qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil or structural engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with ICE or IStructE.
- Strong external recognition within the engineering profession and a wide network across contractors, consultants, and clients.
- Proven track record of leading the design and delivery of complex bridge engineering and major infrastructure projects in the UK and internationally.
- Exceptional leadership skills with strong communication, interpersonal skills, and business acumen; ability to inspire, mentor and develop others.
- Ability to provide leadership to engineering delivery teams with drive, resilience, technical excellence, innovation, and sustainability.
- Strong understanding of construction and ability to work closely with contractors and clients to develop optimum, constructible solutions.
- Experience across all project stages from concept through construction support, with notable delivery experience in a design-and-build environment.
