Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow. Thanks to continued expansion we have a new opportunity for a Principal Engineer to join us. Working on a variety of civil and structural projects, you’ll be providing guidance to less experienced engineers by reviewing their work, while playing a key role in successful project delivery.

The type of projects you will lead will be across multiple sectors which include a significant civil and structural engineering input, along with co‑ordination and leadership of multi‑disciplinary teams. Clients may include contractors on a design and build project, or end clients. Project teams may range in size from a small, single discipline team of a few engineers over a couple of months, through to a multi‑disciplinary team of 20‑30 engineers on a project duration of a year or more.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Checking and assessing projects across a wide range of engineering structures.
  • Coordinating the delivery of your projects to time and budget, ensuring a high standard of technical quality and compliance with our internal management systems.
  • Supervising, mentoring, and developing less experienced engineers and technicians within your project teams, working with line managers to maximise training opportunities.
  • Identifying opportunities to work with our global teams, including those in our Engineering Design Centres, and supporting their specific development requirements, and integration challenges through remote working.
  • Developing and maintaining client relationships through your project work, including identifying and realising any potential business opportunities.
  • Assisting with the preparation of bids and tenders and supporting the Director's in pursuing business development opportunities if required.
  • Production of engineering design, assessment or checking work including preparation or checking of calculations, written reports, and other contract deliverables.
  • The commercial and financial management of projects.

Your skills:

The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve. On top of that, you’ll have:

  • Achieved Chartered Status (IEng or CEng, MICE/MIStuctE).
  • Experience working on civil / structural infrastructure projects with a preference for underground structures and tunnels in the UK or internationally.
  • The ability to oversee and grow project teams and organise the delivery of projects, either as client’s or contractor's designer.
  • Demonstrable experience as a team leader with the ability to support, mentor and develop less experienced engineers.
  • The inter‑personal skills and aptitude to work collaboratively in a diverse multi‑disciplinary team.

What we also offer:

  • 28 days holiday plus all UK bank and public holidays.
  • Formalised development plans and yearly promotion opportunities.
  • Private health care, for you and your immediate dependents.
  • Flexible and hybrid working conditions.
  • Annual subscription fees paid for your membership of two Professional Institutions.
  • Group personal pension scheme – salary exchange.
  • Life assurance.
