Do you want to work on bespoke bridge projects? Can you contribute alongside our team of design experts? Are you looking to advance your career in Infrastructure? Then this is the place to apply your knowledge and curiosity to enable a better tomorrow.
Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow. To shape a future where people and societies grow and flourish, we are looking for a Bridge Engineer to join our team. You will have the opportunity to work on some of the UK’s most innovative and high-profile bridge engineering projects.
We will support you in your journey towards becoming a Chartered Engineer, providing the development opportunities, mentoring, and experience required to achieve professional accreditation. In addition, as part of this role, you will initially be seconded to a major national infrastructure programme, providing you with valuable on-site experience within a dynamic and fast-paced project environment (HS2). This will form a key part of your role for at least the first 12 months, offering exposure to complex engineering challenges and collaborative, multidisciplinary working.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Designing, checking and assessment tasks across a wide range of both new and existing bridges or other complex structures
- Production of engineering design and details, or for undertaking checking or assessment work in accordance with project requirements
- Preparation of analysis models, calculations, written reports and other contract deliverables, and for checking similar work by other engineers
- Working closely with our CAD/BIM technicians to prepare 2D and 3D design drawings and models
- Delivering your work to a high technical standard, ensuring accuracy through a conscientious approach to self-checking
- Visits to sites as required
Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future. The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners, or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.
On top of that, you’ll have:
- A master's degree in either civil or structural engineering and aspire to become a Chartered Engineer with either the ICE or IStructE or an equivalent institution
- Some post-graduate experience in a design environment working on bridges, heavy civil, or complex structures
- Familiarity with UK design standards or Eurocodes
- The inter-personal skills and aptitude to work collaboratively in a diverse multi-disciplinary team
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- A technically skilled engineer, able to demonstrate a deep understanding and enthusiasm for structural engineering and a personal commitment to technical excellence.
At COWI, we work together with our customers to shape a sustainable and liveable world. We do it by applying our knowledge and curiosity – and sometimes even our courage – to create the solutions the world needs today to enable a better tomorrow. That is why we say no to fossil-based projects and aspire to have 100 per cent of our revenue come from activities that move our customers towards sustainability.
We value differences and development and cultivate an environment of belonging and having fun. Because that is what brings out the best in you, at work and at home.
What we also offer:
- 28 days' holiday plus all UK bank and public holidays
- Formalised development plans and yearly promotion opportunities
- Private health care, for you and a contribution from you for your immediate dependents
- Flexible and hybrid working conditions
- Annual subscription fees paid for your membership of two Professional Institutions
