To grow our Infrastructure MEP capability, we are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer with Data Centre experience to join us. Working for UK and international clients, you’ll have the ability to run multiple concurrent medium sized projects and to be a part of the growth of COWI's Data Centre Design Business in Scandinavia while being at the heart of the development of the COWI UK&I Data Centre Design Team.
You’ll undertake a client facing role in the development, design & coordination of infrastructure projects, which could include producing design packages for contractors working on a design & build contract.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Overseeing engineering work related to the design and specification of MV/LV power systems and distribution, including the production of single line diagrams, load schedules, cable calculations, and general arrangements.
- Overseeing the design of other electrical systems, including fire alarm, security, lighting design, lightning protection, earthing, etc.
- Supervising the preparation of technical specifications.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, particularly with the BIM team, to prepare design models and drawings.
- Conducting thorough technical reviews of electrical designs, calculations, and specifications, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements.
- Ensuring that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.
- Participating in project meetings, site surveys and inspections.
- Adhering to all quality and governance processes.

On top of that, you’ll have:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer status or a similar professional qualification.
- Recent experience in electrical designs of Data Centres ideally covering all aspects of Data Centre design.
- The ability to provide technically sound solutions alone and as a discipline lead.
- Experience working on large scale infrastructure design projects.
- Experience in using related software including Amtech & other digital design packages.
- Proficiency in working with BIM software such as Revit, Open Buildings Designer or similar.
- Awareness and knowledge of energy reduction methods, carbon calculations, and sustainable design (particularly low energy).
- A good understanding of British and Industry recognised technical standards and regulations.
- The ability to prioritise own workload and to work to deadlines.
- Knowledge of CDM2015 regulations, with an understanding of key health and safety issues and legislation.
