Pay: £95-£130 per day, depending on experience

Cover People are currently recruiting for a qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to take on a Room Lead role within a specialist inclusion provision at a primary school in North Manchester.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and experienced TA who has a strong understanding of SEND, autism, early communication and specialist provision and is ready to take on additional responsibility.

About the Role

You will take day-to-day responsibility for a dedicated room within the school's inclusion provision, working under the guidance of the lead teacher.

The provision supports pupils who are developing their engagement, communication, independence and foundational learning skills, with many children requiring support around autism and early language development.

As Room Lead, you will help ensure the provision runs effectively while also working directly with pupils and contributing to their learning and development.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the day-to-day running of the provision room
• Coordinating and deploying the staff team within the room
• Planning and delivering high-quality sessions for small groups of pupils

• Supporting teaching across the curriculum and leading small-group activities
• Delivering phonics and reading sessions
• Supporting pupils with SEND to access learning and develop independence
• Working alongside the teacher to plan, evaluate and adapt learning activities
• Adjusting activities and approaches according to individual pupil needs
• Supporting pupils with their EYFS or KS1/KS2 learning and assessment requirements
• Monitoring, recording and celebrating pupil progress and achievement
• Contributing to EHCP and individual learning planning
• Supporting pupils with personal care, hygiene and toileting where required
• Helping to create an engaging and supportive learning environment
• Contributing to the development of resources and specialist learning materials
• Supporting behaviour positively, recognising behaviour as a form of communication
• Supporting break and lunchtime duties
• Working with the wider team to evaluate the impact of interventions and specialist provision
• Promoting literacy, numeracy and communication across the curriculum
• Building positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers

About You

The school is looking for a nurturing, proactive and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) who holds a recognised HLTA qualification and can provide consistency for pupils while also taking the initiative in leading the room and developing its provision.

You should have:

• A recognised HLTA qualification and previous experience working as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant or in a similar education support role
• Experience supporting children with SEND and/or autism

• Confidence leading small-group learning activities
• A good understanding of early communication and developmental needs
• A patient, nurturing and consistent approach
• The ability to recognise behaviour as a form of communication
• Experience supporting children with limited or emerging verbal communication
• Strong organisation and communication skills
• The confidence to coordinate and work alongside other members of staff
• High expectations for pupils and a genuine commitment to helping them achieve their potential

Experience in Early Years, specialist SEND settings or working with children with complex communication needs would be particularly beneficial.
