About the role
As Insurance Accountant / Analyst at Cover Genius, you will sit within a rapidly expanding global finance team and work exclusively on the Asservo insurance business, the Group’s regulated Cayman captive, and captive cell in Malta. Based in Amsterdam or London and reporting to the Associate Director of Insurance Finance, you will own the recurring analysis behind the captive’s technical balances: reserve movements, reinsurance premium and recoveries, paid claims, and the intercompany flows between the captive and the wider Group.
This is a hands-on analytical role with real ownership of a discrete book, suited to someone who wants depth in insurance finance rather than breadth across general accounting. You will work closely with Actuarial, Insurance teams, Underwriter Finance and both the Cayman and Malta administrators and auditors. Success depends on being genuinely curious about how insurance numbers behave; asking why a reserve moved rather than only confirming that it reconciles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Insurance reserve analysis and reporting for the Asservo book; prepare and analyse monthly movements in IBNR, unearned premium reserve, unexpired risk reserve, and outstanding claims reserve.
- Support the actuarial reserving cycle - preparing claims and premium data extracts, reconciling actuarial output back to NetSuite, and documenting the basis of booked reserves.
- Maintain reinsurance recoverable positions on unearned premium and unpaid claims.
- Analyse and reconcile captive written premium and inwards reinsurance written premiums, including UPR movements.
- Reconcile paid claims direct and inwards RI and ceding commission.
- Validate bordereaux and cedent data supporting the captive’s written and earned premium.
- Reconcile the Asservo reinsurance payable and intercompany loan positions, coordinating with Underwriter Finance and Financial Control.
- Prepare monthly Asservo reporting packs, with commentary on drivers of reserve and technical result movements.
To help us level up, you'll ideally have:
- 5+ years of finance or analytical experience within insurance, reinsurance, a captive, an insurtech or an insurance audit practice.
- Working knowledge of insurance technical balances: IBNR, UPR, unexpired risk, outstanding claims reserves and reinsurance recoverables, and how they move.
- Part-qualified or qualified accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, RA), or an actuarial / quantitative background with financial reporting exposure. Equivalent practical experience considered.
- Strong Excel skills, including working with large premium and claims data extracts. Experience with NetSuite is an advantage.
- Demonstrated reconciliation discipline; able to build a clean, reviewable workpaper and explain a variance.
