The Role
Due to the continued growth and success of our undergraduate and postgraduate engineering teaching, we wish to appoint a Technical Skills Instructor (TSI) in Aerospace to provide technical and practical support to students and staff in the High-Performance Engineering Centre. The role will centre on support for the aerospace courses and include activities that range from aircraft maintenance, aerospace systems testing (avionics, propulsion, structures), flight simulation, manufacturing, and workshop practice.
You will share your engineering knowledge and experience with the next generation of engineers, who are keen to learn. You will also have the opportunity to support students with project work and entry to national student competitions such as BFMA/RAeS Aircraft Design and IMechE UAS challenges, through to seeing students graduating as professional engineers at the end of their studies.
You will be required to support the use of the current facilities including:
- Open and closed section wind tunnels
- X-Plane based Flight Simulator Suite
- Harrier VSTOL aircraft
- Additive and subtractive manufacturing
- Precision measurement equipment
- Range of specialist aerospace rigs
Training will be provided.
Our Successful Candidate:
We are seeking a person with a good level of general education in an engineering discipline. Experience of aircraft engineering or maintenance would be advantageous but not essential. Relevant industrial or educational experience will also be considered, as will experience in a teaching or practical instructional capacity. You will be willing to work in a flexible manner, be able to work effectively both under your own initiative and as a member of a team and promote and support positive learning to individuals and groups of students.
