Lecturer (Teaching) in Geospatial Science and Physical Geography

As Lecturer (Teaching) in Geospatial Science and Physical Geography, you will contribute to teaching and learning within the School of The Environment, with responsibility for the development, preparation and delivery of teaching, learning and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including module leadership where appropriate, and contributing to curriculum development with international and intercultural experiences.

You will join a School known for excellent teaching, high student satisfaction, and a strong emphasis on experiential learning through fieldwork, student-led projects, and simulation, in the UK and internationally.

This role is with Peoples Future Ltd (a sister company of Coventry University) and involves adopting inclusive, engaging and experiential approaches to teaching and assessment, in both face-to-face and online environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, prepare and deliver teaching, learning and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including module leadership where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the development, organisation and management of the curriculum to include international and intercultural experiences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and deliver modules, supervise student research and project work, and act as a workplace learning advisor.
  • Adopt and promote engaging, inclusive and experiential approaches to teaching, learning and assessment in both face-to-face and online environments.
  • Ensure teaching is informed by contemporary research and develops students’ ability to engage in debate, critical discourse and rational thinking.

Qualifications

PhD (or equivalent), or a good Honours Degree and/or Master’s Degree if from a Professional practice background with appropriate professional qualifications and/or membership that might be considered equivalent to a PhD.

Our Successful Candidate

  • Expertise in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, environmental modelling, land and environmental surveying, and physical geography.
  • Experience in both theoretical and applied dimensions; contribute to teaching across undergraduate degree and degree apprenticeship programmes.
  • Beneficial to have applied or practical field experience in UAV (drone) operation and analysis, mobile/web mapping applications, hydrography, utilities surveying or asset management, and topographic/engineering/construction surveying to support real-world problem solving and industry-relevant training.
  • Experience designing and delivering high-quality learning experiences; candidates from professional practice with relevant, recent experience in GIS, remote sensing or surveying are welcomed.
