The Role

As a Assistant Professor (Teaching) in Automotive and Motorsport Engineering you will undertake teaching and course co-ordination while supporting the development and delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs and other core activities ensuring students have an effective learning experience. Senior Teaching Fellows lead on aspects of the student learning experience including the leadership of staff teams.

Based within the College of Engineering, Environment and Science you will work with and lead other academic colleagues to enrich the student learning and teaching experience to ensure, as appropriate, relevant aspects of research, enterprise and professional context are embedded in modules and courses.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the curation, adaptation, design and development of module and course teaching materials including Curriculum development.
  • Supervise undergraduate and/or postgraduate students as they undertake individual and group projects
  • Support the delivery of CPD courses where appropriate
  • Visit students during the industrial placement year
  • Collaborate with the students from the Phoenix Racing team to help them design, build and implement powertrains for automotive and motorsport design/build project vehicles

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate subject OR (if from a professional practice background) a good Honors Degree and an appropriate professional qualification and/or membership
  • A teaching qualification or extensive experience of delivering professional and/or university education
  • PhD or active membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous
  • Experience in an Automotive or Motorsport Powertrain environment is essential including an understanding of GT Suite software.

Our Successful Candidate

You will have demonstrable experience of successful teaching at higher education levels 4-7 in vehicle powertrain systesms with the development and demonstration of best practice in teaching, learning and assessment consistent with our reputation and track record as a high-quality provider of teaching and learning.

An experienced team leader with good level of digital fluency, you will have experience using creating teaching materials for face to face and online teaching using a VLE.

Enthusiastic and self-motivated, you will have experience in the development and enhancement of an ‘active learning’ pedagogy as appropriate to the academic subject area.

As a global education provider, high levels of cultural awareness with experience of learner’s cultural differences and expectations with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds is essential.

Innovation and collaboration are key to our success, therefore the ability to generate and follow through innovative ideas, work both independently and part of a wider team with the willingness to engage in flexible ways of working are key skills required for this role.
