The Role

As Assistant Lecturer in Computer Science, you will be based in the School of Science, working closely with academic colleagues to enrich the student learning and teaching experience to ensure, as appropriate, relevant aspects of research, enterprise and professional context are embedded in modules and courses.

The school is responsible for a thriving portfolio of teaching. We offer undergraduate degrees in Computer Science, Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Ethical Hacking and Cybersecurity, Games Technology, Information Technology Management, and Data Science. Our postgraduate courses include Data Science and Computational Intelligence, Computer Science, Advanced Software Engineering, and Cyber Security. Note that this is an exclusively teaching-focussed role.

As Assistant Lecturer in Computer Science you will undertake a teaching role while supporting the development and delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs and other core activities ensuring students have an effective learning experience. There are also opportunities for transnational teaching delivery abroad; willingness to travel would be an advantage. This role has been specifically created to support the development and delivery of our Computer Science degree – online version. This will involve the creation of high quality asynchronous material, as well as remote delivery.

You will teach general computer science subjects. You must be able to program at an advanced level, with good knowledge of programming languages including Python and C++, covering both theory and key applications. You should have knowledge and appropriate technical skills in some or all of the following areas: software engineering, artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, web and mobile development (including APIs), cybersecurity, and computer systems.

You will be responsible for the delivery and support of online learning, teaching and assessment at undergraduate level. You will work closely with course teams to help provide the high-quality online learning environment our students expect. You are likely to be involved in other online module, curriculum and degree development going forwards. You must be willing to take on new areas of teaching, develop new computer science knowledge and skills, and engage in continuous development, as necessary.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor\’s degree in an appropriate subjec OR (if from a professional practice background) a good Honours Degree and appropriate progress to an appropriate professional qualification and/or membership.
  • Master\’s degree in an appropriate subject, PhD or active membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous
  • Willingness to acquire a teaching qualification if not already held.

You will have the ability to demonstrate best practice in teaching, learning and assessment along with high standards in engagement consistent with our reputation and track record as a high-quality provider of teaching and learning.

A strong communicator with excellent digital, you will have experience using Aula or other forms of communication to deliver student communications, assurance of timely and accurate information and high standard teaching material. Experience facilitating excellent academic working relationships to foster student academic cohesion and a sense of academic community and belonging is required.

Enthusiastic and self-motivated, you will have experience supporting, enhancing and engaging in an \”active learning\” pedagogy with evidence in proactively supporting student success.

As a global education provider, experience and awareness of leaners cultural differences and expectations with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds is essential.

Innovation and collaboration are key to our success, therefore the ability to work both independently and part of a wider team with the willingness to engage in flexible ways of working are key skills required for this role.
