About the Club: Coventry Golf Club is a members-owned private club founded in 1887, with more than 135 years of history and a reputation as one of the finest mature parkland courses in the region. Set across 120 acres of gently undulating parkland in Finham, the par-73 course has hosted multiple European Tour events, Open Qualifying and numerous national professional and amateur tournaments. The Club combines a traditional members' culture with a modern outlook, offering a full clubhouse, restaurant and bar, function and events facilities, and an active programme of member, visitor, society and corporate golf.
Purpose of the Role: The Club Manager holds overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Club and clubhouse, and for delivering an outstanding experience to members, guests and visitors. The role leads on membership growth and retention, food and beverage quality, facilities and maintenance, health and safety, and the commercial and financial performance of the Club — championing consistently high standards across every point of contact. The Club Manager is the public face of the Club and the key link between the staff teams and the Board.
Structure & Scope: A member of the leadership team, the Club Manager reports into the Operations Director of the club. The Club Manager is responsible for the clubhouse, hospitality, membership, people, buildings, grounds around the clubhouse, compliance and commercial performance — and will work in close partnership with the Course Manager to present a seamless, high-quality experience to members and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Membership growth & member experience: Own the membership strategy — driving recruitment, retention, renewals and the overall growth of the membership base across full, corporate, 5 day and social categories. Deliver an exceptional, consistent member and guest experience at every touchpoint, setting and upholding high standards of service and welcome. Handle member communications, feedback and complaints professionally, and build strong relationships across the membership. Develop the member calendar of golf, social and corporate events to keep the Club vibrant and well-used.
- Food & Beverage and hospitality: Take overall responsibility for the bar, restaurant and catering operation, ensuring consistently high standards of food and drink quality, presentation and service. Oversee menus, pricing, stock, suppliers and margins in partnership with the catering/kitchen team, balancing quality with commercial performance. Grow food and beverage revenue through dining, functions, weddings, society and corporate hospitality. Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene (HACCP) and licensing requirements.
- Facilities, buildings & maintenance: Ensure the clubhouse, changing rooms, pro-shop areas, car park, grounds around the clubhouse and all Club buildings are maintained to a high standard and are safe, clean and welcoming. Manage planned and reactive maintenance, contractors, and facilities budgets, and help plan and deliver capital and improvement projects. Oversee Club equipment, utilities, IT/EPOS systems and security.
- Health, safety & compliance: Act as the Club's responsible person for health and safety, ensuring a safe environment for members, guests, staff and contractors. Maintain risk assessments, policies, records, insurance, licensing and all statutory and regulatory compliance (including safeguarding, data protection and fire safety). Foster a strong culture of safety and high standards throughout the Club.
- Finance & commercial: Manage the Club's operating budgets, cash flow and financial performance, reporting regularly to the Board. Identify and develop new revenue streams and drive cost-efficiency without compromising quality. Oversee subscriptions, green fees, EPOS and stock controls, and ensure sound financial controls throughout.
- People & team leadership: Lead, motivate and develop the clubhouse, hospitality, administration and facilities teams, setting clear standards and expectations. Manage recruitment, rotas, training, performance and HR matters across the non-golf-course teams. Build a positive, service-focused and accountable staff culture.
- Marketing, events & governance: Oversee the Club's marketing, website, social media and brand, promoting membership, dining, functions and visitor golf. Plan and deliver events, competitions and functions to a high standard. Support the Board and committees with reporting, planning and implementation of Club strategy and policy, working in close partnership with the Course Manager.
Person Specification:
- Essential: Proven management experience running a whole venue or operation — for example a golf, sports, leisure, hospitality or members' club — with clear accountability for standards and performance. A strong track record in membership or customer growth and retention, and in delivering an excellent customer/member experience. Solid food & beverage / hospitality experience, with a genuine commitment to high standards of food, drink and service. Sound commercial and financial acumen — budgets, margins, revenue growth and cost control. Facilities and health & safety knowledge, with the ability to act as the responsible person for H&S and compliance. Excellent leadership, communication and people-management skills. A hands-on, standards-driven approach and the flexibility to work outside of normal hours on occasion.
- Desirable: Experience within a golf club or private members' club environment. Familiar with working on a volunteer Board or committee structure. Relevant qualifications (e.g. hospitality/leisure management, personal licence, H&S such as IOSH/NEBOSH, food safety). Marketing, events or functions/weddings experience.
