The Community Safety Team at Coventry City Council plays a vital role in protecting residents and supporting safer, stronger communities. We address issues such as anti-social behaviour, serious violence, exploitation, safeguarding, and community cohesion. Working closely with partners, businesses, enforcement agencies, and local residents, we deliver targeted interventions and visible reassurance to help communities feel safe, supported, and connected.

We value diverse perspectives and experiences and are striving to create a workplace culture that is inclusive, accepting of all, and free from discrimination and bias.

We're looking for a motivated and confident leader to join our Community Safety Team. You'll oversee the day-to-day work of Community Wardens across Coventry, making sure patrols, enforcement activity, and community engagement are delivered where they're needed most. You'll support and develop staff through supervision, coaching, and welfare support, helping the team maintain high standards and a positive, community-focused approach. Working closely with West Midlands Police, local businesses, community groups, and council services, you'll help tackle anti-social behaviour, respond to emerging issues, and contribute to citywide safety initiatives.

The role is varied, fast-paced, and ideal for someone with strong leadership skills, good judgement, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. You'll also play a key part in incident management, safeguarding, and ensuring safe working practices.

Please note: This role requires shift work, including evenings, weekends, and late-night duties.

We're seeking a capable leader with substantial experience in community safety, enforcement, security, neighbourhood management, or a similar frontline environment. You'll bring proven experience in supervising operational teams, managing performance, and coordinating effective responses to complex community safety challenges. You should be comfortable making sound decisions in fast-moving situations and able to balance enforcement responsibilities with strong communication and community engagement skills.

You will bring:

  • Experience supervising staff in a frontline operational setting
  • Strong knowledge of anti-social behaviour, community safety, and safeguarding
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with partners and communities
  • Experience managing conflict, challenging behaviour, and incidents
  • The ability to analyse information, prioritise resources, and coordinate operational activity effectively
  • Confidence in using enforcement powers and applying legislation appropriately
  • A commitment to employee welfare, development, and maintaining high professional standards
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment

A DS SIA licence and/or experience in enforcement, security, policing, community safety operations, or conflict management is essential. A full UK driving licence is also essential.

At Coventry City Council, we're proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your wellbeing, development, and work-life balance:

  • Competitive salary with incremental progression and salary matching
  • Generous annual leave starting at 28 days annual leave (plus Bank Holidays) with option to purchase more and rising to 33 days following 5 years service.
  • Generous local government pension scheme to help plan for your future
  • Lifestyle discounts across a wide range of activities and retailers
  • Flexible working arrangements to support your personal and professional needs
  • Inclusive Employee Networks: EmbRace, Pride, Disability, Young people, and Women
  • Employee Assistance Programme offering confidential support
  • Certified training courses to help you grow and thrive
