The Role
We are on the hunt for an enthusiastic and talented Performance Data & Insights Analyst to join our Performance Analysis department, working full-time at the club’s Training Ground. Working with the Coventry City first team, this role provides a critical service to ensure raw performance data is transformed into actionable insights for the Coaching and Performance Analysis teams. Additionally, the successful candidate will work collaboratively across departments at the training ground, and will provide input into special projects requiring data analytics and insight (e.g., recruitment, sport science, & medical teams).
Responsibilities of the role
- Collect, process and analyse match performance data from multiple sources, including event data, tracking feeds and internal performance metrics.
- Support pre-match, live and post-match analysis by providing data-driven insights into team performance.
- Develop clear, engaging visualisation and reports to communicate tactical and performance trends to coaches and players.
- Provide a variety of pre- and post-hoc seasonal reports for review and prediction.
- Work closely with Performance Analysts and Coaching staff to integrate data into video and tactical presentations.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with the team’s playing philosophy, and coaching objectives.
- Conduct opposition analysis through quantitative data review to support game planning.
- Collect, process and present physical data insights to the sport science department for player tracking and reporting.
- Continuously evaluate and review data processes to improve clarity, accuracy and relevance of insights.
- Work collaboratively with the recruitment department on special projects related to prospective player signings.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, Criteria
- Educated to degree-level (or with demonstrable equivalent experience) in a related field.
- Strong proficiency with Python or R.
- Experienced in using and interrogating common data platforms such as StatsBomb, WyScout, Second Spectrum, Impect, Catapult, SAP & Tableau.
- Experience using Cloud Data Storage and SQL for data query.
- Experience in using Tableau (& similar tools) to create engaging visualisations and dashboards.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills – specifically the ability to explain analytical findings to coaches, players and football staff in a practical, football-specific manner.
- Strong understanding of football match analysis and tactical principles.
- Good interpersonal skills and able to work flexible hours in a fast paced high performing football environment.
- Ability to work to tight schedules.
Desirable
- Experience of working in a professional football environment.
- Understanding of data modelling and trend analysis in football performance contexts.
- Familiarity with video analysis workflows and integration of data into visual reporting tools.
- Knowledge of the EFL Championship and the performance demands of the league.
