We are looking to recruit a Senior Building Control Officer (RBI) to join our busy, high‑performing, forward‑thinking team. Our team handles a wide range of building control projects, from domestic extensions and conversions to large‑scale commercial and public developments. What Is the Job Role?
As a Senior Building Control Officer, you will contribute to the delivery of our Building Control service through plan assessments, site inspections, client liaison, and assessment of developments against Building Regulations, associated legislation, government guidance, and council policies. You will process and assess a range of Building Control applications, document and record information accurately, and issue decisions in a timely manner. You will respond to notifications of dangerous and dilapidated structures, ensuring appropriate action is taken to remove any danger. You will also help develop and improve the Building Control service, implement best practices, and provide technical advice on Building Control matters. Although advertised as a full‑time role, we consider flexible arrangements for part‑time applicants.
Who Are We Looking For?
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Qualifications
- An ONC, OND, or BTEC in a building‑related subject; or
- A professional qualification by one of the Chartered Institutions—RICS, ABE, CIOB—with a specialism in Building Control; or
- CIOB Public Service Building Control Surveying Diploma (Level 4, 5 or 6); or
- At least three years of working within a Building Regulations environment.
- Validated to a Building Safety Regulator Class 2 (A‑F) Domestic Registered Building Inspector.
In addition, you must already be validated to a Building Safety Regulator Class 2 (A‑F) Domestic Registered Building Inspector; you will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work under pressure, and prioritise your workload; you will also need a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle to travel to various sites across the city.
