What is the job role?

You will work for Coventry City Council as part of the Direct Labour Organisation (DLO) and will be a member of a successful team responsible for the construction and routine maintenance of footways, carriageways and drainage. You will lead a small team and undertake all highway construction and maintenance activities, which include laying bituminous materials, drainage installation, kerb, paving and pipe laying and other related activities to precise levels and tolerances. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to work on high‑profile schemes and projects across our city to make it a better place to live for our residents.

Who are we looking for?

To be successful, you will need:

  • Knowledge of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • The ability to operate a variety of plant machinery including heavy rollers, dumpers, compressors/Jack Hammers, Sthil saws, whacker plates safely.
  • Experience of working within Highway construction/maintenance.
  • The ability to work within a team environment and under your own initiative.
  • Experience of running a small team.
  • Good communication and numeracy skills.
  • Experience of working with members of the public who come from a variety of different backgrounds.
  • Willing to undertake training, if and when required.
  • Able to work in all weathers.
  • Full UK Driving License.

Interview dates: WC 1st December 2025 followed by a Work based assessment at a later date.
