About The Team We Are Recruiting To

The Revenues Service is a large team of more than 60 people working together to collect £340 million of corporate revenue to help the Council provide vital services to Coventry residents. From council tax to business rates to invoices for stalls at the Godiva Festival, the team perform a range of roles to ensure we provide excellent services to residents and internal council departments and that ultimately, we maximise the collection of public funds. The revenue we collect ensures the council can provide services from bin collections to looking after our parks and green spaces to providing the best possible chances in life for our looked after children.
Our team is uniquely placed within the council as we interact with every one of Coventry’s 140,000 residential properties and 9,000 commercial properties. Every resident and customer we deal with has a unique set of circumstances – our team challenge those who can pay and don’t pay – applying a range of legal remedies to compel people to pay what they owe. But the team also listen to and support those who can’t pay and help some of our most vulnerable residents find a way out of debt.
What is the job role?
In this role you will be dealing with customers, stakeholders & outside organisations, you will help to collect more than £200 million of Council revenue. This is a fast-paced team with tight deadlines and targets to meet each week.
- You will be responsible for dealing with the recovery of a wide range of invoices covering a wide range of services provided by the City Council.
- You will help the Council to achieve its collection targets and maximise resources to fund the vital services for local residents.
- You will instigate robust debt recovery practices whilst being sensitive to the needs of our vulnerable residents.
- You will work to procedures and policies designed for the team.
At present staff are working from home but the role is usually based in our offices at Friargate and you will form part of a dynamic and motivated Corporate Income Team.
All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
Someone Who Has a Passion For Customer Care.
Someone who can prioritise and organise a workload, work under pressure and manage priorities with minimum supervision using their initiative.
- You will have excellent customer service, communication and negotiation skills, face-to-face and over the phone.
- Any experience you have had with dealing with debt
- You will need to be target-driven and capable of managing your workload and conflicting priorities.
- You will have the confidence to deal with a range of different customers and make appropriate recovery decisions based on the current circumstances of each case.
