What is the job role?

Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities? Tiverton School is seeking a dedicated and motivated Senior Classroom Support Staff (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) member to join our team.

In this rewarding role, you will work collaboratively with teachers to support and enhance the learning of our pupils, many of whom have a range of special needs. You’ll deliver planned lessons and activities, manage and support other educational support staff within the classroom, and provide high-quality care and supervision to our pupils. Your contribution will be essential to helping our students achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver planned lessons and learning experiences to individuals, groups, and whole classes when the teacher is not present.
  • Plan, assess, and report on pupil development and progress in collaboration with teaching staff.
  • Provide guidance and support to other classroom support staff, including mentoring students and managing placements.
  • Support pupils\’ personal care needs and ensure their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and professionals to support pupil progress and welfare.
  • Assist in creating a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.

Who are we looking for?

To be successful in this role, you will need the following;

  • Qualifications:Level 4 or HLTA Status (or willing to undertake).Good standard of literacy and numeracy (GCSE English and Maths or equivalent required).
  • Experience:Substantial experience of working with children of the relevant age or with special needs.Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Skills and Knowledge:Strong understanding of child development, the national curriculum, and support strategies for children with special educational needs.Excellent communication and organisational skills.Ability to support pupils\’ personal care and manage sensitive situations with dignity.Competence in using ICT to support learning.Commitment to confidentiality and safeguarding best practices.
