Overview

The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council. We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need.

We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities.

We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning. In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.

Our work-based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas:

  • Nursery Workers
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Leadership/Management; and
  • Customer Care.

We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop.

Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

What is the job role?

We are looking for enthusiastic and supportive Facilitators to join our Skills, Employment & Adult Education Service. In this role, you’ll help deliver engaging learning activities in community settings across Coventry, supporting adult learners to achieve their goals. You’ll carry out community outreach and engagement activities, promoting learning opportunities across the city and encouraging Coventry residents to enrol in our programmes. Assist with planning sessions, preparing materials, and guiding learners through their educational journey. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in education or community work who is passionate about making a difference and helping others succeed. This is a fixed term contract until 31st July 2026.

All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a supportive and adaptable individuals with experience in educational or community settings to help deliver engaging adult learning activities. The ideal candidate will understand the barriers adults face in education and be committed to helping learners overcome them. You should be confident in facilitating learning, preparing materials, supporting learners’ progress and conducting outreach and engagement. Strong communication, organisational skills, and a willingness to engage in professional development are essential. You’ll also need to promote equity, diversity, and safeguarding in all aspects of your work. Relevant subject qualifications and Level 2 English and maths are required.
