Coventry City Council is recruiting for four trainee pest control and dog enforcement officers to join our successful team, providing pest control services for domestic residents and commercial customers across Coventry, Warwickshire and the surrounding areas.

What is the job role?

The successful candidate will receive full training and must complete an RSH qualification in pest control and the relevant training for dog enforcement.
Once fully qualified and certificates obtained the salary will increase from grade 3 to grade 5.
Under the general direction of the Pest Control Manager and Senior Pest Control Officer you will handle all aspects of commercial and domestic pest control, including:
- Providing commercial pest control services to our existing portfolio of customers and identifying and securing new business opportunities to support the growth of the contract portfolio.
- Providing domestic pest control services to the residents of Coventry, identifying and reducing infestation to maintain public health standards across the city.
- Executing removal of household waste, garden clearance work when notices have expired, and supporting dog enforcement work such as fixed penalty notices, dog fouling in public spaces, and enforcement in gardens, including collection of stray dogs.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person who cares about their local environment and who will look at ways to ensure that public health standards are maintained by employing safe working practices when applying traps or baits to both domestic and commercial customers.
You should understand the principles of customer care and quality and have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both orally and in writing, with people from a range of backgrounds.
- Effectively manage a demanding workload and deal with conflicting priorities.
- Use Microsoft Office to produce word‑processed documentation, such as letters and reports, to a high standard.
- Possess influencing, persuading and negotiating skills and the ability to deal effectively with conflict and aggression.

- Hold a full driving licence and be able to travel around a wide area of the city to carry out district work.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
