This hybrid role is based in the ERP for two days a week and involves outreach and training in schools across the city for three days. The position is term‑time‑only and does not include annual or flexi leave. The post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and requires a satisfactory DBS check.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct speech and language support to secondary pupils in the ERP at President Kennedy School.
- Offer support, advice and training in primary and secondary schools across the city to enable staff to meet the needs of pupils with SLCN.
- Plan one‑to‑one and group interventions for pupils with SLCN.
- Write a variety of reports for schools and parents that are both professional and accessible.
- Support the Team Lead and Assistant Team Leads in developing and rolling out the SLCN outreach offer for the city.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children and young people with a range of SEN.
- In‑depth knowledge of language development and strategies to support children with SLCN.
- Strong enthusiasm for engaging even the most reluctant learners.
- Capability to share good practice and train others, developing staff expertise in supporting children with SLCN.
- Confidence in positively managing distressed behaviour and interpreting underlying communication needs.
- Understanding of the importance of partnership with parents to achieve the best outcomes for their child.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, flexible, can‑do attitude.
- Ability to put others at ease, build trust and relationships quickly.
