Public libraries acquire, organise and provide access to a range of information and reading resources to meet the diverse needs of a community. We actively support independent learning and encourage reader development, also providing information on areas such as:

  • Local and national government services
  • Learning opportunities
  • Leisure activities
  • Local community news and events

We also play an important role in providing access to computers and the internet for those who are digitally excluded. The Library Service works in partnership with local, regional and national organisations to provide a full and wide-ranging service offer.

Libraries are uniquely placed to change lives for the better. They are busy and vibrant open spaces, not only providing access to books but also helping people to help themselves and improve their opportunities. By providing practical support and guidance, libraries play a critical role in enabling and empowering people to realise their potential, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Two roles available: 1 × 25 hours per week & 1 × 24.5 hours per week. We are looking for someone to join our team as a Library Site Services Assistant to support the work of Coventry Library Service, in providing a safe welcoming space for visitors to relax, read, learn, use computers, attend and participate in events on site or online. In your role you will be ensuring a good visitor experience.

Main day-to-day duties of the role include:

  • Answering public enquiries in a welcoming and courteous way
  • Maintaining the welcoming appearance of our library spaces – keeping library spaces clean, tidy, safe and secure
  • Opening and closing premises
  • Providing an internal delivery system by driving a range of vehicles
  • Manual handling of library stock and furniture

This is an exciting role where no two days are the same, so we’re looking for someone who can respond to those challenges and enjoys the variety that this role would bring. We will provide training as well as giving you the opportunity to go on a defensive driving course to bolster your skills and allow you to carry out the role efficiently. Someone able to work evenings and weekends and be flexible to change shifts if required. This post works a two‑week rota; there will be various shift patterns available which range from the hours of 7 am to 7 pm and these will be discussed at interview.

We’re looking for a versatile person with a driving licence who can work across multiple sites in the city and ensure that orders are delivered, small repairs and maintenance are carried out and a provide friendly presence for the purposes of customer service and security.
