Role Overview
An experienced Senior Legal Officer is needed to join the Council's Legal and Procurement Service. The role is fast‑paced and part of a high‑performing team, focusing on advising on complex planning and highways matters while supporting wider corporate objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide transactional and advisory support, including but not limited to s.106 agreements, planning enforcement, development management and policy.
- Support the Place Team Leader and manage a busy planning caseload.
- Draft, negotiate and advise on planning, highways, rights of way and related commercial matters.
- Work collaboratively across multi‑skilled teams and adapt to changing business and client needs.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a law degree, Level 3 CILEX or relevant legal office based experience or equivalent.
- Understanding of planning law and experience of managing a busy planning caseload.
- Experience of dealing with s106 planning and associated agreements.
- Experience working with senior officers, including attendance at relevant meetings.
- Provision of legal advice across Town and Country Planning, Highway Law (including footpaths) and Compulsory Purchase.
- Knowledge and understanding of local government and administrative law.
