The Facilities Management (FM) Service comprises several diverse and multi-disciplined teams that are responsible for the safe operation, management, maintenance and efficiency of the Council’s property assets. The teams provide a range of services and support to the Council’s operational, commercial and schools portfolios ensuring the Council's legislative obligations are fulfilled.
- Repairs and Maintenance (R&M) Team: Skilled trades carrying out planned and reactive maintenance to the council and school property portfolio.
- Compliance and Surveying Team: Ensures portfolio adherence to all statutory obligations in regard to maintenance and servicing and management of asbestos and fire management.
- Building Cleaning Team: Responsible for ensuring that all Council properties are clean and fit for occupation.
- Property Information Team: Ensures all property plans and data are accurate and up to date fulfilling the Council’s obligations for reporting.
- Energy Management Team: Responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient management of utilities and identifying new green projects.
- Facilities Management & Site Services Team: Responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the portfolio by space planning, service charge preparation and management.
Under the direction of the Facilities Manager - Housing, provide an efficient service to tenants ensuring the housing and homeless housing provision is fit for purpose and carrying out routine and reactive repairs including painting and decoration of the accommodation, carpentry, grounds maintenance, cleaning, and the removal of refuse/furniture and legionella/H&S checks.
This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same, combining planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, grounds maintenance and property compliance. You will carry out a wide range of multi-skilled maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, flooring repairs, lock changes, PAT testing, and general building maintenance.
You will also be responsible for preparing rooms for new tenants, supporting office moves, maintaining external areas, carrying out compliance checks, and responding to emergency maintenance issues. Using our CAFM system, you'll manage and update maintenance tasks while working across multiple sites using company vehicles.
This role requires someone who is organised, customer-focused and comfortable working independently as well as part of a team. Flexibility is essential, as occasional out-of-hours work may be required to respond to urgent issues or support operational needs.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.
You will be a proactive and dependable individual with experience in property maintenance or facilities management and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service. You will have the ability to carry out a wide range of maintenance duties safely and effectively, work with minimal supervision and adapt to changing priorities.
A full UK driving licence is essential, as travel between sites forms part of the role. Whilst no formal qualifications are required, you must be able to demonstrate good literacy and numeracy skills.
This post works a rotating shift pattern of 7.00am–3.00pm and 10.15am–6.15pm and attracts a 10% shift allowance.
