The Education Entitlement Service (EES) strives to deliver outstanding services for our customers, predominately the children of Coventry, who may be requiring access to education or alternative education provision. We ensure vulnerable children are appropriately supported; have a voice, that hopefully leads to their high achievement and excellent progress.

The EES is made up of a diverse range of teams all working together to recognise, support and apply innovative solutions to address the growing issues in relation to trying to educate some of our most vulnerable pupils in schools.

The Outdoor Education Service made up of experienced staff members provides high quality outdoor and residential experiences within the beautiful Snowdonia National Park.

What is the job role?

The successful candidate will be a valued member of the Coventry Outdoors staff team, delivering a range of outdoor therapeutic education activities across Coventry. You will work with children, young people, families, schools, and community groups, supporting their personal, social, and emotional development through structured outdoor learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of fixed programmes and projects on a casual basis throughout the year, including:
    • Education and Curriculum Programmes for Coventry schools
    • Holiday Activity Camps during school holiday periods
  • Deliver safe, fun, and interactive therapeutic activity sessions, incorporating best-practice approaches to health, safety, and wellbeing of children and young people.
  • Contribute to the high standard of physical, emotional, and social care offered by Coventry Outdoors, acting as a group leader and key pastoral contact for participants.
  • Apply therapeutic approaches and interventions where appropriate, supporting emotional regulation, resilience, and social development within the outdoor learning context.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to plan, deliver, and evaluate sessions, ensuring activities meet both educational and therapeutic outcomes.

Person Specification

  • Experience working with children and young people in outdoor or therapeutic settings.
  • Confident in delivering engaging activities, including bushcraft, team-building, or curriculum-linked outdoor learning.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with children, young people, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Enthusiastic, reliable, and motivated self-starter.

Additional Information

  • This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and appointment will be conditional upon a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Casual employment provides flexibility, with opportunities to work across different programmes and settings as required.
  • All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly organised individual with a proven track record of working with children and young people in an outdoor and therapeutic setting who can take the lead on our programmes and provision. You must be energetic, hardworking, and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate experience managing large groups of children, young people, and adults in a range of circumstances, and have the ability to deliver safety briefings, activity briefings, and provide supervision and support as required. Experience in therapeutic approaches and programmes is highly desirable, enabling you to support emotional, social, and behavioural development alongside outdoor learning activities.

We require candidates to hold relevant NGB, Leadership Awards, or Youth Work qualifications, and have experience delivering team building, bushcraft/survival activities, national curriculum programmes, and therapeutic interventions, or be willing to receive training in‑house.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, motivated self-starter with a genuine passion for helping young people thrive through outdoor education and therapeutic experiences.
