The Education Entitlement Service (EES) strives to deliver outstanding services for our customers, predominately the children of Coventry, who may be requiring access to education or alternative education provision. We ensure vulnerable children are appropriately supported; have a voice, that hopefully leads to their high achievement and excellent progress.
The EES is made up of a diverse range of teams all working together to recognise, support and apply innovative solutions to address the growing issues in relation to trying to educate some of our most vulnerable pupils in schools.
The Coventry Interpretation and Translation Unit (CITU) support professionals by providing an impartial high-quality interpretation and translation service to people whose first language is not English or who have a sensory impairment.
What is the job role?
Casual Interpreters/Translators
Coventry Interpretation and Translation Unit (CITU) maintains a casual register of people with linguistic skills to support service users whose first language is not English. If you are fluent in Amharic, Dinka, Kurdish, Lingala, Malayalam, Nepali, Nuer, Pashto, Polish, Slovak, Swahili, Tigrinya, Turkish and Vietnamese languages, both written and verbal, have a good command of English and are available for face to face appointments within Coventry area during office hours to work on casual basis then you are invited to apply to join the Sessional Register of Interpreters/Translators. You will be paid at Β£13.90 per hour plus travel time. Qualified Interpreters will be paid at a higher rate of Β£14.82 plus travel time. This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?
Candidates should possess a minimum degree level or equivalent qualification, the DPSI (Diploma in Public Service Interpreting) is desirable, or an equivalent qualification will be given preference.
The role requires you to be available to conduct face to face appointments across the City of Coventry. Please note extra travel costs are not paid as part of the role.
