About the role
With our recent acquisition of the Co-operative Bank, it’s a really exciting time for colleagues and customers of the Society and the Bank. At this momentous time, we have a rare opportunity for a Head of Tax to join us on this exciting journey. Reporting into the Financial Controller, the Head of Tax is responsible for all tax matters across the Group and will manage key external relationships with HMRC.
The person in post will lead a team of tax professionals responsible for corporate tax, indirect taxes including VAT and employee and operational taxes. The Head of Tax will provide specialist advice and guidance and will ensure timely and accurate tax reporting is produced in line with applicable policies and with strong internal control.

About you
You will have significant proven experience in a leadership or senior role responsible for taxation. To be successful in this role it’s essential that you will:
- Be a qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CTA) with significant post qualification experience
- Have experience of managing key external relationships including HMRC
- Have significant experience of working in a technical taxation role
- Have experience of managing, leading and developing a professional team
- Have the ability to find commercially focused solutions in complex technical aspects of taxation.
Desirable experience needed will be:
- A strong influencer and communicator to Executive and Board levels
- Experience of working in taxation for a banking or financial services institution
