We are looking to recruit into a position to be based on our adult mental health wards in Warwick. Do you have lived experience of mental ill health, trauma or distress - either as a patient or a carer? Have you been an inpatient on a mental health ward or are a carer of someone who has been an inpatient? Can you represent the patient perspective in discussions?

For the first time, we’re embedding lived experience roles across our inpatient mental health services, and we’re looking for lived experience engagement facilitators to join us. As a lived experience engagement facilitator, you’ll work on the ward with patients to ensure that those who access our services have a voice that is heard throughout all levels at CWPT from individual ward rounds all the way through to partnership board meetings. You’ll work closely with several wards, developing good working relationships with patients, carers and staff. You’ll facilitate sessions and hold spaces for individuals to share ideas on our services and how they are delivered via group sessions and/or one-to-ones, and will champion co‑production in the development of all services. You will then work with our transformation workstreams to feed back any information gathered to co‑design our inpatient services. If you’re passionate about co‑production, we want to hear from you!

Main duties of the job:

  • You’ll be supported by and work closely with the Expert by Experience Development Lead and other programme leads to support the designing of co‑production opportunities and help facilitate engagement sessions for patients to participate in.

About us:

At Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT), we deliver a wide range of physical, mental health, learning disability and autism services, and are proud to serve communities across Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond. We put 'people at our heart'; this ethos is at the centre of everything we do and how we do it. We care for our staff and colleagues as much as they care for others and offer a wide range of benefits and development opportunities.

These include:

  • Generous annual leave entitlement which increases during your time with us
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • Excellent learning and development opportunities, including apprenticeship frameworks, distance learning, internal training, coaching and mentoring, and much more
  • Salary sacrifice schemes for lease car/ vehicle, Cycle to Work, home and electronics, gym membership and more
  • Discounts with a range of retailers, restaurants and entertainment venues through our Employee Assistance Programme and NHS discount schemes
  • Wellbeing support, including an in‑house counselling service, external helpline and more
  • Staff networks and support groups.

We’re always on the lookout for people who share our passion for improving the lives and wellbeing of people in our community, as well as our values of compassion, collaboration, excellence, integrity and respect.

Job responsibilities:

NB we are looking for people with lived experience either as a patient with mental ill health, dementia, trauma or distress or a carer. By 'carer' we mean caring for a loved one with mental ill health, trauma or distress. We do not mean care worker/support worker in a paid role. If you are not sure about whether to apply for this role, please contact Claire Handy on claire.handy@covwarkpt.nhs.uk to discuss your uncertainties.

Need help with completing your application? There is fully funded application and interview support available for people living within Coventry, Warwickshire, and surrounding areas through the NHS Health & Social Care Employability Academy. For more information, please contact employabilityacademy@uhcw.nhs.uk.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to GCSE level in Maths and English or English language literacy and numeracy skills to the standard necessary to fulfil job description.

Experience:

  • Own personal experience of Mental Health inpatient admission.
  • Previous experience of working with people who are navigating recovery / experiencing mental illness.
  • Evidence of building effective interpersonal relationships with a diverse range of individuals with a wide range of needs.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of mental ill health and the impact it can have on individuals, carers and their families.
  • Understanding of the issues and concerns of mental health patients, especially inpatient patients.
