The Mental Health in Schools team is expanding its workforce to include Higher Level Teaching Assistants/Support Workers.

In line with the government’s priority to increase access to mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the High-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) role within the Mental Health in Schools Team (MHST) offers an opportunity to contribute to early mental health interventions. This role bridges education and healthcare sectors, ensuring mental health and emotional wellbeing are integrated into educational settings for the benefit of children and young people.

The HLTA will collaborate with Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) to support and deliver evidence-based mental health interventions and activities. This includes facilitating whole-school mental health approaches, leading group work, and providing targeted support for children, young people, and their families.

The service is hosting \”Let\’s Talk MHST\” information sessions for prospective candidates on Monday 11th and Wednesday 13th August. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Working within the limits of training to assess and deliver outcome-focused, evidence-based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
  2. Working under supervision from qualified professionals to provide high-quality care planning as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  3. Contributing to the development of clinical or training materials within your competence and following Trust procedures.
  4. Signposting referrals for children and young people with complex needs to appropriate services.
  5. Supporting emotional wellbeing activities for groups of children, young people, and families.
  6. Disseminating public health information and supporting workshops, including resource creation and data collection.
  7. Assisting with delivery of activities from the Whole School Approach (WSA), such as psychoeducation groups, assemblies, and workforce training, and creating audits and action plans to support these activities.
