Clinical Lead Onyx Ward
Clinical Lead post – 22.5 Hours per week.
Onyx Ward is a purpose built low secure ward for up to 7 men diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ward was designed as an environment to meet the needs of offenders diagnosed with ASD to access treatment that is conducive to their recovery. The ward has living spaces for patients that have their own lounge and garden areas and ability to regulate temperature and light.

This post is required to support clinical leadership on the ward, with a focus on the safety and quality aspects of patient care. The role is critical to the timely management of incidents, supporting the MDT and driving the patient’s input to co‑produced services.
The post works alongside the ward manager, in a full MDT with a support network of clinical leads from our other wards.
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Clinical Lead for Onyx Ward. Post registration experience and interest in working with individuals with ASD is essential.
Main duties of the job
Lead clinical responsibility for all aspects of nursing care planning, including pre‑admission, developing specialist programmes of care from pre‑admission to discharge.
Responsible for clinical development and clinical supervision of all nursing staff within the secure services at Brooklands.
Provide cover for the Clinic Ward Manager as required.
Job responsibilities
- Carry out nursing therapeutic work with complex patients with a learning disability and mental health disorders
- Work collaboratively with other MDT members to ensure treatment plans are in place and clear lines of accountability are established. This work will be undertaken in the context of multidisciplinary and interagency working.
- In conjunction with the MDT, oversee day‑to‑day delivery of treatment strategies to patients ensuring that all multidisciplinary treatment recommendations are implemented and evaluated in a timely manner.
- Undertake comprehensive assessment and treatment planning and provide direct nursing interventions, advice and evaluation to the Secure Service ensuring that the care planning process does not delay the patient’s progress through the treatment pathway.
- Ensure that care plans are appropriate to the needs of the patients, person‑centred and reviewed in a timely manner that reflects the changing needs of the patient.
- Ensure the utilisation of evidence‑based assessments, formulations and nursing therapeutic interventions, which appropriately meet the needs of patients on an individual and group basis

Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RNLD/RNMH)
- Master's degree or equivalent specialist training, experience or short courses
Experience
- Extensive experience working in Secure Services at Band 7 level
- Experience developing and sharing knowledge and skills with staff through both formal and informal teaching sessions
- Experience providing clinical supervision to staff working within the Secure Service
- Experience managing a service at Band 7 in order to provide cover for the operational manager as required
