Overview
We are recruiting a Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) within the West Midlands Learning Disability and Autism Community Forensic Service. This service is being developed as a partnership between Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) and Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT). We are seeking experienced SALTs with a background in community and forensic work with adults with learning disabilities and/or autistic adults. Applications are welcome from staff who are currently working at Band 6 level or above. This is a non-recurrent, two-year project funded via the Reach Out Collaborative, with the contract commencing upon appointment. This post is available as a fixed-term contract or 20-month secondment opportunity for internal applicants. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering specialist SALT interventions and supporting recovery-focused outcomes for individuals in secure inpatient services across the region.
Responsibilities
- Organising, delivering, and developing the Speech and Language Therapy provision to achieve agreed service objectives in line with relevant protocols and procedures.
- Offering highly-specialist SALT assessments and interventions to service users, families, and carers across both inpatient and community services.
- Managing an independent caseload while collaborating with other professionals and carers to help service users achieve recovery goals in the context of their learning disability and/or autism, risk profile, and social circumstances.
- Leading on and contributing to research and service development projects, in line with agreed service priorities and timescales.
- Supervising and managing clinical practice as required, including SALT students and other staff working within the clinical area.
- Participating in the West Midlands-wide on-call rota, providing clinical advice and urgent support outside core hours.
