Coventry & Rugby GP Alliance, in partnership with Dementia UK, is recruiting an experienced registered nurse to join its Admiral Nursing Service as an Admiral Nurse Clinical Lead. This role is ideal for a nurse passionate about relationship-centred dementia care, advocacy, and promoting equality for people living with dementia and their families.
The successful candidate will provide expert one-to-one support, guidance, and practical interventions for families while championing best practice across Coventry and environs. As Clinical Lead, you will manage and supervise the Admiral Nursing team, oversee clinical caseloads, and lead initiatives that enhance dementia care and support from pre-diagnosis through to post-bereavement.
Reporting to the Head of Clinical Patient Services, you will receive ongoing professional support from Dementia UK to strengthen your specialist expertise. You will also join the wider Admiral Nurse network, gaining access to learning opportunities and professional development aligned with the Admiral Nurse Practice Standards Framework.
Applicants must be NMC-registered nurses with substantial post-registration experience supporting people with dementia and their carers across a range of settings, including primary care. A recognised postgraduate qualification or formal clinical training in dementia care is essential.
Candidates are encouraged to complete Dementia UKs free Pre-Admiral Nurse eLearning course before interview or upon appointment.
Main duties of the job
The AdmiralNurse will lead, deliver and coordinate relationship-centred dementia carewithin operational areas of Coventry & Rugby GP Alliance, in order to improve the experience of carers/families affected by dementia with complexneeds.
In line withthe Admiral Nurse Competency framework at an enhanced specialist level, thepost holder will provide:
- Specialist bio-psychosocial assessmentand support for people with dementia and families with complex needs
- Facilitation of education and trainingfor staff in the delivery of evidence-based dementia care
- Clinical leadership with policydevelopment and quality improvements in relation to dementia care
- Consultancy to other health and socialcare professionals regarding dementia
- Manage a team of Admiral Nurses withinCoventry & Rugby GP Alliance

Job responsibilities
Main Duties:
Clinical
- Deliver regular clinical 1:1 sessionsfor families affected by dementia who meet the referral criteria withindesignated areas/ practices
- Provide clinical leadership on the careof people with dementia and their carers/families with complex care needs fromperi-diagnosis to post bereavement support, to support reduced reliance on GPappointments
- Provide specialist nursing assessment,using the Admiral Nurse Assessment Framework or appropriate tools forcarers/families affected by dementia, including positive risk taking, managingdistressed behaviours and risk minimisation strategies
- Provide a range of bio-psychosocialinterventions to promote health and wellbeing for people with dementia andtheir carers/families
- Work collaboratively with otherprofessionals to improve the identification and management of co morbiditiesand frailty for people with dementia and their carers/families
- Develop and support care plans forpeople with dementia and families including positive risk management
- Support people with dementia,carers/families and staff to understand and respond to changes in behaviour andrelationships as a result of dementia
- Provide care coordination for a clinicalcaseload of families with complex needs as identified within triage assessment
- Ensure the safeguarding of vulnerableadults and that all legal requirements relating to Mental Capacity Act 2005,Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards(2009) are considered and adhered to inrelation to patient care
- Act as an advocate for people withdementia and their carers/families to promote their rights and best interests
- Participate and lead on caseconferences, continuing health care processes and best interest meetings whererequired
- Work collaboratively with health, socialand voluntary sector services to achieve coordinated care
- Work in partnership with colleagues topromote the use of advance care planning for people with dementia and tosupport and inform families, around advance care planning, best interestdecisions and end of life care
- Manage and advise on complex caretransitions for people with dementia and their carers/families to reduce thefrequency of crisis situations
- Regularly attend multi-disciplinary teammeetings for long-term conditions to inform and receive information regardingpatients who have a diagnosis of dementia
- Refer to secondary care if there isdeterioration in condition/a review of medication including antipsychotics isrequired or any other concerns regarding a persons health that cannot bemanaged in primary care, in line with their dementia expertise
- Support and advise on carer assessmentsand reviews
- Ensure that care is delivered inaccordance with relevant local and national guidelines and all relevantCoventry & Rugby GP Alliance policies
- Recognise the limits of own competencyand professional boundaries and make appropriate and timely referrals to otherservices where required
- Ensure that clinical records are up todate and maintained and stored appropriately in line with local and nationalGDPR regulations
Education andLeadership
- Facilitate and support the developmentand delivery of innovative dementia training and education to staff, to improvecompetence and confidence, in line with best practice and guidance
- Participate in and/or lead formaltraining events promoting best practice in dementia care and disseminatingAdmiral Nursing work
- Provide professional and clinicalleadership and mentorship, acting as a clinical role model on the delivery ofevidence-based practice in dementia care within Coventry & Rugby GPAlliance.
- Advise and support on the developmentand delivery of work streams as part of Coventry & Rugby GP Alliances,dementia strategy, where appropriate
- Work proactively with key local andnational stakeholders to develop more integrated care pathways and holisticmodels of care, through dissemination of specialist skills and knowledge
- Contribute to the delivery of localpolicy, procedures and protocol for Coventry & Rugby GP Alliance to improveidentification, assessment, ongoing support for people with dementia and theirfamily carers.
Evaluation andAudit
- Support the audit and evaluation ofquality improvements and initiatives aimed at improving the delivery ofdementia care within Coventry & Rugby GP Alliance, where appropriate torole
- Collect and review quantitative andqualitative data, as agreed, to evaluate and audit the Admiral Nurse Serviceand make necessary improvements
- Undertake analysis and evaluation andmake any recommendations to the Coventry & Rugby GP Alliances DementiaStrategy Group or similar
- Ensure service information and datarecorded is relevant, accurate, complete and captured in a contemporaneousmanner
- Support evaluation of workforcedevelopment in dementia to improve staff knowledge and skills across Coventry& Rugby GP Alliance

Professional
- Ensure all nursing practice is carriedout in accordance with the agreed policies and procedures of Coventry & Rugby GP Alliance and the NMC Code
- Attend and actively participate inpractice development, clinical supervision, and continuing professionaldevelopment supported by Dementia UK and underpinned by the Admiral NurseCompetency framework
- Develop own competence through use ofthe Admiral Nurse Competency Framework and portfolio development usingresources provided by Dementia UK
- To maintain professional registration inline with NMC guidance, including re-validation
- Contribute to and lead the developmentof policies, procedures and protocols relevant to dementia and Admiral Nursingwithin Coventry & Rugby GP Alliance, including the Standard OperationalPolicy

Qualifications
- Registered Nurse - RNMH/RGN/RNLD
