We’re on the lookout for a Senior Motor Trade Underwriter to join our Commercial Lines Team.

The role will contribute to the profitable development of the Midlands, North and Scotland Region as well as the wider Mid Market Business. This will be by case underwriting new business risks and actively managing existing business portfolios. We’re looking for someone with a wealth of knowledge and experience in underwriting, with a proven ability to build and develop relationships with brokers.

We work on a hybrid basis, our office base being Manchester 2 days per week and 3 days from home (flexibility may be required).

What will I be doing?

  1. Profitably developing and underwriting bespoke commercial lines motor trade risks within Covéa Insurance’s underwriting criteria, regularly underwriting on site in broker offices.
  2. The collection and delivery of the motor trade account for the region.
  3. Developing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with a panel of Mid-Market brokers as their nominated development relationship underwriter for motor trade products.
  4. Developing and supporting Covea’s commercial lines account by engaging and encouraging new and existing relationships with regional brokers.
  5. Prospecting and actively contributing to the growth targets of the team optimizing sales and retention.
  6. Maintaining an accurate audit trail using Covéa Insurance’s systems, practices and procedures.
  7. Underwriting within Covéa strategy and authority limits and referring all cases outside of strategy or individual limits.
  8. Maintaining and endeavoring to exceed agreed service levels to both internal and external customers.
  9. Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of the commercial lines market, the regional broking marketplace, and legislation and litigation which could affect the writing of business.
  10. Providing technical assistance, taking referrals and providing guidance to colleagues.

What would we like to see in you?

  1. Experience in underwriting and trading commercial motor products.
  2. A detailed knowledge of the broker market.
  3. Proven relationship management skills.
  4. The ability to demonstrate meeting & exceeding personal and team objectives.
  5. An awareness of market and legal/industry developments.
  6. Minimum Cert CII. Dip CII, or progress towards, is preferred.
  7. Proven effective and strong trading skills including prospecting and optimizing new business and retention.
  8. A strong and decisive approach to underwriting.
  9. Excellent communication skills with the ability to sell the benefits of Covea Insurance products and influence results.
  10. Good problem-solving skills.
  11. The ability to work independently but also as part of a team to deliver common goals.
