We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Curriculum Leader of Food & Nutrition who is knowledgeable and passionate about their subject. The existing leadership position has become available for someone with a proven track record of teaching high quality lessons across the ability range for 11-16-year-old children. You will not only lead a great team of teachers, but also a hardworking and knowledgeable team of technicians. You will also be responsible for curriculum planning, delivering in house CPD, and managing a wide range of resources. Our aim, quite simply, is to make sure that every child, in every lesson, every day is achieving excellence.
The school is committed to supporting and investing in all staff with high quality CPD both internally and in a wider Hampshire and National context, ensuring staff are at the forefront of innovative teaching and learning. Cove School is an 11-16 school and has over 1000 students on roll. It enjoys strong links with the local authority and has a vibrant CPD programme as described by Ofsted (Dec 2020) which includes an excellent developing leader's programme and a dynamic teaching and learning community. The dedicated Food Technology area is centrally located on the ground floor of Art & technology block and comprises two large food rooms, a dedicated prep area and storage. Food technology is a well-equipped area with continual investment in upgrading ovens and general equipment.
Responsibilities
- Engage, enthuse, motivate and challenge pupils in order for them to excel academically
- Have relentlessly high expectations of themselves and pupils
- Have excellent subject knowledge
- Be willing to teach across the full age range of pupils; year 7 to year 11
- Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the department and wider school through sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and active participation in continuing professional studies programme
- Teach a standard timetable allocation (PPA and Leadership time assumed)
- Lead the efficient running of the curriculum area, including setting and marking examinations, leading departmental meetings and undertaking administrative and other tasks, delegating as appropriate
- Actively safeguard and promote the health & safety, and welfare of children and staff
- Support the school's aims and objectives for teaching and learning
- Adhere to and promote all school policies and procedures
Qualifications
- Good degree in a directly related subject (desirable)
- Thorough knowledge of the (11-16) subject Curriculum up to GCSE
- Recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, or equivalent experience
- Awareness of Safeguarding requirements and good practice regarding health & safety
- Good level of IT literacy
- Be capable of delivering inspirational and informative lessons to the full age and ability range of pupils at the school
- Be able to demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with pupils
- Excellent and effective classroom management skills
- Have excellent communication skills to enable effective dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitors
- Be organised and self-motivated, with a proven record for meeting targets and deadlines
