We are a leading solicitor’s firm based in the North West, dedicated to providing exceptional legal services to clients nationwide. With a team of experienced professionals, we specialise in handling no win no fee claims across various service areas, including housing disrepair, helping tenants secure repairs and compensation for poor housing conditions.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Housing Disrepair Paralegal to join our growing team based in Blackburn. The successful candidate will have significant experience running housing disrepair matters independently, including pre- and post-litigation claims, and will be confident supporting solicitors, mentoring junior paralegals, and helping drive case progression and quality standards across the team. This role is suited to a paralegal ready to take on greater responsibility, autonomy, and leadership, with clear scope for progression.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage a complex caseload of housing disrepair claims from instruction through to settlement or litigation.
- Support compliance with the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions Claims, ensuring procedural accuracy.
- Draft and review Letters of Claim, pleadings, witness statements, schedules of damages, and other court documents.
- Review housing records, repair histories, and supporting documentation to assess liability and quantum.
- Analyse and assist with reviewing surveyor’s reports and expert evidence.
- Liaise confidently with clients, landlords, housing associations, experts, counsel, and other third parties.
- Assist solicitors with litigation strategy, case preparation, and progression of higher-value or complex matters.
- Prepare and oversee court bundles and assist through all stages of litigation.
- Maintain accurate and compliant case files using Proclaim or similar case management systems.
- Provide day-to-day support, guidance, and informal supervision to junior paralegals.
- Assist with onboarding, training, and maintaining quality and productivity standards within the team.
- Ensure high standards of client care, compliance, and file management at all times.
Qualifications
- Law degree (LLB) or equivalent legal qualification preferred.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2–3+ years’ experience in housing disrepair or claimant civil litigation (essential).
- Strong working knowledge of housing disrepair law and procedure.
- Proven ability to run matters independently in a volume litigation environment.
- Experience supporting or mentoring junior paralegals.
- Excellent drafting, organisational, and time-management skills.
- Confident communicator with strong client-handling skills, including vulnerable clients.
- Ability to prioritise competing deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
- Proficient in Proclaim or similar case management systems.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong attention to detail.
