POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Manager of Water and Wastewater Technical Services, assists with compliance and enforcement of the Oxford County Source Water Protection Program and coordinates the Backflow Prevention Program to protect municipal drinking water sources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Applied Science, Engineering Technology, Environmental Studies, Environmental Geoscience or a related discipline.
  • Certification or ability to obtain certification in Backflow Prevention and as a Risk Management Inspector under Part IV of the Clean Water Act is required.
  • Demonstrated experience monitoring compliance, conducting inspections, conducting workshops and presentations, and writing technical documents and reports.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of environmental sciences, industrial manufacturing processes and associated water treatment and distribution practices.
  • Knowledge of agricultural practices and Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs requirements will be considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures and practices, including relevant regulations (e.g. Building Code Act, Clean Water Act, Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Nutrient Management Act, and Provincial Offences Act), rules of evidence and court procedures, backflow prevention, cross connection control, and local source protection plan policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with key stakeholders such as internal staff, external agencies, area municipalities, affected landowners, the general public, consultants, developers, builders and contractors to deliver programs and services.
  • Understanding of role specific health and safety responsibilities, and ensured compliance with internal and external safety policies, procedures, and legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Ability to demonstrate the required competencies for this position in alignment with Oxford County’s competency framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team.
  • A valid Class “G” driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required in order to operate Oxford County vehicles.
